In 2010, burnt out from a corporate career, I followed a pull toward something more meaningful and taught microfinance in Nairobi’s Kibera slum - a place where survival was the norm and vulnerability was rare. I witnessed a conversation with a former gang leader where his bravado fell away and something deeply human emerged. That moment confirmed what my work now centres on: real evolution happens beneath the roles and masks we build to survive - often shaped by wounds we didn’t yet have language for.

Growing up Gen X - amid high divorce rates, early independence, and a culture of self-reliance - I became very good at coping, keeping it together, and doing what was expected. Those same patterns also fed burnout, addictive behaviours, hidden mental-health struggles, and a long season of feeling disrupted inside my own life.
